Bond 25 Might Be One of the Spy’s Best Ever Outings: Daniel Craig Returns for a Final Bond Film, Adele Sought for Second Theme Song *Updated: Cary Fukunaga Drops In

As predicted by … um, everyone — heck, even the puppies seemed to know —

it’s all but official; as reported by The Mirror, Daniel Craig is returning for Bond 25. Barbara Broccoli and Co. have, as well they should,  apparently thrown all the money at the actor to keep him around a little bit longer. As noted in the piece, Craig’s pairing with Adele for Skyfall made more than enough buckets of money to toss a few extra wads of cash his and her way, and still leave plenty for Broccoli’s own pockets.

Honestly, this is a win-win all around. Whatever faults the scripts have had, Craig is a fantastic Bond, and we fans will all run back to the theater to see him again. Adele won an Academy Award, Grammy, Golden Globe, and a Brit Award with her gorgeous theme; who wouldn’t want more of her? With Hiddles out, Idris foolishly deemed too old, and we doubt Broccoli will ever bring on the woman we KNOW would make a fantastic Bond, there’s time enough to scour the world for the next generation 007.

*coughSnookcough*

Writers, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Spectre, Skyfall) are aboard, while Broccoli is still in discussions with Adele.

Bond 25 will begin filming next year.

*Update:  The film will be released November 8, 2019 (slightly earlier across the pond), and the NYT confirms Craig’s “done deal”.

*Update:  March 15, 2018

This might be one of the best Bond movies ever.

As announced by Danny Boyle himself, the director will helm 25 with a screenplay written by frequent collaborator, John Hodge (Trainspotting, T2, Shallow Grave, A Life Less Ordinary).

We are working on a script right now. And it all depends on that really. I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to start shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks. Then Bond would be right at the end of the year. But we are working on them both right now.

We’ve got an idea, John Hodge, the screenwriter, and I have got this idea, and John is writing it at the moment. And it all depends on how it turns out. It would be foolish of me to give any of it away.”

Let’s hope this pairing means we might see a certain other frequent Boyle partner in the movie.

*Update May 25, 2018

Here’s the official confirmation that Danny Boyle will direct.

We’ve been expecting you… #Bond25, Daniel Craig’s 5th outing as 007, will be directed by Academy Award-winning Danny Boyle from an original screenplay by John Hodge. Production is set to begin on 3 Dec 2018. MGM will partner with Universal Pictures to release the film worldwide.”

Now please, hurry up and call Naomie Harris!

*Update August 21, 2018

Well, this is unexpected. As announced by the official 007 Twitter account, Bond 25 needs a new director.

What a shame; we were really looking forward to the Boyle take on Bond. That said, there’s pretty much only one answer to the conundrum …

Make it so, MGM.

*Update September 20, 2018

Well now, things are getting really interesting. Cary Fukunaga (True Dectective, The Alienist, Beasts of No Nation) has been announced as Danny Boyle’s replacement on Bond 25. British production company, Eon along with Barbara Broccoli tweeted:

We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure.”

In particular, what Fukunaga accomplished with True Detective — that long shot! — has us excited for the director ‘s style and vision. We’ll soon be able to get a sense of his science fiction vision with Netflix’s Maniac, which premieres September 28th. As for Bond 25, the film’s release date has been pushed to February 14, 2020.
