Amazon is not messing around lining up original content, and neither is director Nicolas Winding Refn, who’s been quietly gathering an outstanding cast for his first streaming series, Too Old To Die Young. As per usual, there’s not a lot of plot or character information, but what little we know is intriguing:

It explores the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles by following characters’ existential journeys from being killers to becoming samurais in the City of Angels.”

Not for nothing, but Refn does seem to harbor a certain obsession with killers … (as do we) so the news he’s writing — along with six time Eisner Award winner, and screenwriter, Ed Brubaker (Daredevil, Captain America, Batman, Sleeper, Fatale, Westworld, Captain America:  The Winter Soldier) — and directing the entire ten episode series is already thrilling; now just look at this phenomenal group of actors:

Miles Teller (as Martin, a police officer)

John Hawkes (who has another Amazon pilot on the books:  The Legend of Master Legend )

Leonard Robinson

Jena Malone

Callie Hernandez

Babs Olusanmokun

Cristina Rodlo

Augusto Aguilera

Nell Tiger Free (Game of Thrones‘ Myrcella)

Billy Baldwin

Do we even care what it’s about? I mean, this is a no brainer; mandatory watch.

Too Old To Die Young will premiere on Amazon in 2018.

Update:  May 25, 2018

Samurais are apparently hot, again. Here’s the first sufficiently Refn-ish (stylized, brightly colored flashes of violence, weapons, blood. Let there be blood.) series tease:

The song is Cliff Martinez‘ (whose work has also been featured in the director’s Drive, Only God Forgives and Neon DemonEach Drop Is an Odyssey. — very Stranger Things, no?
