Emma Stone and Jonah Hill Will Go Full Legion in Cary Fukunaga’s Star-Studded Netflix Series, Maniac

Photos have been released for Netflix’s upcoming Maniac, and the shots bring to mind a few other series (and Mad Max:  Fury Road) so naturally, we’re all in. I’m fairly certain you’ll be, as well.

With ten episodes based on the 2014 Norwegian black comedy by Espen PA Lervaag and Hakon Bast Mossige, Cary Fukunaga (True Detective, Beasts of No Nation) returns to the small screen full time, surrounded by an intriguing cast of characters. The Legion-esque premise surrounds Jonah Hill as a man living in an elaborate fantasy world; in actuality, he’s institutionalized and hooked up to what looks like vintage camera parts that are likely the device that spirits away his brain. Also starring Emma Stone as perhaps the Syd to Hill’s David, or maybe just a fellow patient trying to discern reality, there’s enough dreamy imagery here to warrant strapping yourself into a chair beside them.

Sally Field and Ozark‘s amazing Julia Garner join Hill and Stone; the Mad Max/Vikings overtones are pretty cool.

Tell me you don’t want to follow Stone anywhere and everywhere.

Bobbie the Bear‘s cousin, is that you?

Maniac also stars Ex Machina‘s Sonoya Mizuno (Annihilation, La La Land) as Dr. Fujita, Justin Thereoux as James Mantleray, and Daredevil/The Punisher‘s Geoffrey Cantor and GirlsJemima Kirk. It’ll hit Netflix later this year.
