Unless you’ve been buried under a massive Pyeongchang snow drift, you’ve heard something about Adam Rippon’s gorgeous, underrated, history-making (he’s the first openly gay U.S. athlete at the winter Olympics) performance this past Sunday night, the one that helped Team USA win a Bronze medal for figure skating. And if you somehow missed it, you really need to watch right now; I promise you’ll be glad you did.
Rippon has also been in the news for speaking his mind on a number of topics, including the appointment of Vice President, Mike Pence to lead the U.S. Olympic delegation, saying “You mean Mike Pence, the same Mike Pence that funded gay conversion therapy? I’m not buying it.”
Adam went on to say he’d not go out of his way to meet Pence, “…somebody who I felt has gone out of their way to not only show that they aren’t a friend of a gay person but that they think that they’re sick.”
And that’s just the tip of his fabulous iceberg; Rippon’s Twitter page is a wealth of witticisms and wonderfully funny, snarky, often self-deprecating quips, drawing glee and ire alike from the crowds.
The REAL one for I did for TV says “my mom” but, like, I needed this one for myself because it was the first thing that actually popped in my head and I thought I was so funny. pic.twitter.com/aC5X7wQ7bY

I described myself as “a little trashy and a little fun” to the Associated Press. I bet my mom is proud. https://t.co/v1ws5aldOC

But still “a little trashy” … let the record show that my own mother didn’t correct me when I said I was trash 🚮♻ https://t.co/lqbnbqMnRv

His sense of humor is clearly as important as determination in getting Adam through anything and everything, and we’re thankful for his openness and his pride.
I am so excited to be going to my first Olympics in a few weeks. Being the first out🏳️🌈 male selected to represent the 🇺🇸 at a Winter Olympic Games is awesome. https://t.co/HpSHUr4uvP

LBGTQ ppl are still targeted in hate crimes, sent to concentration camps, are asked about their “lifestyle”, and questioned about the bathroom they use. So, until that stops, it’s important to be “out” and visible.

Unfortunately, as he mentions, there are still those with hate-filled hearts who inexplicably find it necessary to wish him unwell, but this particular hero knows just how to handle that nonsense … with honesty, humility and as always, the perfect dash of finesse.
To all those who tweet at me saying that they “hope I fail”, I have failed many times many times in my life. But more importantly, I’ve learned from every setback, proudly own up to my mistakes, grown from disappointments, and now I’m a glamazon bitch ready for the runway.

Darling, you clearly are the champion, and we love to watch you shine like a diamond. We wish Adam the best in his upcoming skates Friday, February 16th and Saturday, February 17th.
