I’m the Doctor: Jodie Whittaker Made Sure She Got the Same Pay as Her Male Predecessor

Hallefreakinlujah! Is pay equality truly and finally happening? If the new (Thirteenth) Doctor has anything to say about it, the answer is a resounding “Yes”.

As she revealed at the National Television Awards, Jodie Whittaker is not only taking over the TARDIS, she took over Peter Capaldi’s salary, and noted the significance.

It’s an incredibly important time and the notion [of equal pay] should be supported.  It’s a bit of a shock that it’s a surprise to everyone that it should be supported!

I know I do not speak just on behalf of the women here, I speak on behalf of the men and the women.”

The actress kicked off her stint at the end of the Doctor Who Christmas Special, “Twice Upon a Time” in the most spectacular fashion,

and it’s great to hear she demanded her worth.

Whittaker makes her full debut under new showrunner, Chris Chibnall later this year, with new Companions, Yasmin (Mandip Gill), Graham (Bradley Walsh), and Ryan (Tosin Cole).

Series Eleven will air on BBC1 and BBC America.
