What’s Happening in Jason Bateman’s New Netflix Series, Ozark?

It’s one thing when you’re a single guy who makes a grave mistake; quite another when you have a whole family, young kids and all. In what looks to be a Fargo-ish twist on Bloodline and Mad Dogs, Jason Bateman’s Marty Byrde is about to bring his brood a whole world of trouble, and I like it.

Byrde’s a financial planner (the kind of guy we all love to hate), Laura Linney’s his wife, Wendy, and they’re looking to disappear, kids and all — to the Ozarks — hmm … I wonder what that could mean. Oh, and there’s a Mexican cartel involved, and stacks of cash, and accidents. Yeah, we’re gonna want to dive right into this mess.

Bateman directed five of the series’ ten episodes. Created by Bill Dubuque (The AccountantOzark also stars Michael Mosley, Kevin L. Johnson, Julia Garner, Skylar Gaertner; it premieres on Netflix July 21st.
