Turn Around This Way Because Your Rear End Is to the Camera: Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds Remain Bright Lights

Grab the tissues and warn your tear ducts they’ll be on overtime this weekend, because Bright Lights are coming …

Clearly Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher had the kind of magical mother daughter relationship that begs chronicling, and before they both ditched us for what’s presumably Coachella in the hereafter (Bowie, Prince, Michael), the pair did just that. After watching this short clip, all I want to do is to curl up beside the pups, laugh at their quips and bask in their glory.

My first thought was that we missed the best reality show opportunity, but Fisher and Reynolds were too good for that. At least we have these lasting memories they so graciously shared.

Bright Lights airs on HBO this Saturday, January 7th.

I finally started a 30 day trial with HBO so that I could watch Wishful Drinking after Carrie Fisher died. I’m glad I will be able to see Bright Lights, too.

I’m interested in your response to Wishful Drinking. I watched it two nights ago, alone. I did not really know much about Fisher past her movie work and did not know she was mentally ill until recently. That said, I liked WD, but something about it seemed uncomfortable. I don’t mean uncomfortable/as in/ her struggles make me uncomfortable, but uncomfortable/as in/ a little…forced? Off-key slightly? Her delivery seemed off the cuff but not…quite. I cannot put my finger on why it made me itchy. That also said, I’m glad her honesty was/is able to give voice and humor to many people’s struggles with mental illness. But it left me feeling sad, mostly because it failed to REALLY truly resonate with me. I am sure this says more about me than about her. Maybe I’m cynical…?

I loved Wishful Drinking. I think that slightly forced and uncomfortable style is all Carrie. She was like that when she presented prepared stuff live. She had also had ECT, which impacts short term memory.
