Stranger Things, Indeed: Netflix Finally Lets Us Sneak a Peek at Winona Ryder’s Supernatural Series

It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for this — Winona Ryder’s full time return to our lives — Netflix’s science fiction mystery series by Duffer brothers Matt and Ross (Hidden, Wayward Pines). First dubbed Montauk, later changed to Stranger Things, it’s about a mother whose son mysteriously disappears from a sleepy little town…vanishes…circa 1983. With government conspiracies and top secret experiments, supernatural elements, and who knows — aliens? — what else involved, this nostalgic look at a simpler time looks like just our perfectly swirled cup of nighttime magic.

What kind of cop says that? “Maybe Will saw something he shouldn’t have seen.” I’m putting that guy on serious watch. And also, this series.

Stranger Things also stars Matthew Modine and David Harbour, and is available to stream on Netflix July 15th.

Can anyone figure out if it’s flashbacks from present to the 1980s or if the whole thing is set in the eighties? Is Winona the mom? I’m confuzzled. But it looks great!

    • It’s actually set in the 80s, and yes, she’s the mom.
