OH MY GODS. We already knew Gillian Anderson is a goddess, but this is honestly too much. I think I may explode.
As just announced via Twitter:
MEDIA ALERT (literally): @GillianA has officially joined #AmericanGods as Media! pic.twitter.com/vZceQEJijJ
— American Gods (@AmericanGodsSTZ) June 3, 2016
And confirmed by Gaiman (and series executive producer), himself, Anderson will soon transition from stage goddess (as Blanche DuBois) to television goddess (again). Fittingly, she’s reuniting with her Hannibal showrunner, playing the actual goddess of television — one of the novel’s New Gods — called “Media”.
Here’s the official series description for Media:
…the mouthpiece for the New Gods, functioning as their public face and sales representative, by taking the form of various iconic celebrities. She lives off the attention and worship that people give to screens — to their laptops, their TVs, to their iPhones in their hands while they watch their TVs. Ever the perky spokesperson, and always in control, she spins stories in whatever direction best suits her.”
BRB, I have to go change my…well, you know.
Anderson joins Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, Emily Browning as Laura Moon, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis (can’t wait to see how she is depicted), plus Peter Stormare, Crispin Glover, Jonathan Tucker, Mousa Kraish, Cloris Leachman, and Pablo Schreiber.
I’ll be perfectly honest; I loved the novel until I realized the big battle was…***Spoiler*** never coming.***End Spoiler*** The characters though; they’re excellent, and I fell quite in love with Shadow and Wednesday. So, I’m truly curious where Fuller will take the show, and hopeful he’ll (as he’s wont to do) take things up a notch.
