It’s interesting that in a Bond trailer-off between a “professionally” created imagining and one that a fan made, the amateur is by far superior. After both Emilia Clarke and Gillian Anderson recently made it known they’d love to play 007, we’ve all gone a little happy over the idea of a female MI-6 lead, and while I’ll happily admit I have a favorite in this particular faux-race, these two trailers pretty much demonstrate why one would work so much better than the other. Firstly, let me say that I adore both these actresses and theoretically, either could easily nab the part. Clarke mentioned she’d love to have Leonardo DiCaprio as her Bond Boy, and Rolling Stone accommodated her desire in their “Jane Bond” concept video:
Can Clarke do action? Absolutely. Can she kill it in a white suit? Certainly. Do I buy her as Bond…er, sorry Khaleesi. You’re my queen, and you can ride the fork out of a dragon, but something doesn’t quite work — it may simply be a matter of maturity?
Now, here’s the fan-created Gillian Anderson as 007 trailer:
Action, check. Stylishly suited, check. But, Anderson has a certain sophisticated air that perhaps Clarke’s youth impedes; where Gillian smolders and burns, Clarke is still on simmer. Gillian already has agent and police training — it’s evident in everything she does. Perhaps in a few years, Clarke could take over the mantle but for now, Anderson’s the bisexual — comes in handy when manipulating targets — Bond we need.
