***Spoiler Warning: This post contains Game of Thrones spoilers through Season 6, Episode 5. Spoilers***
I don’t know why Game of Thrones‘ writers and showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss like to torture us so, but they really and truly do seem to enjoy it. Perhaps they’re just passing on their own torment; the pair have had to carry around the secrets George R. R. Martin has shared with them for years. If you’ll recall, because B & W knew the HBO series would inevitably catch up — then pass — what the author has written, the duo sat down with Martin a couple of years ago to get an outline of where the characters in his epic tale would end (Valar Morghulis)…up.
Via EW comes the latest tease, a cryptic and perhaps fearsome foreboding of things to come. Benioff and Weiss say that GRRM informed them of three “holy shit” moments, two of which we’ve already seen, and neither of them was any less than traumatizing. The first was that horrible thing that Melisandre cooked up (sorry!)…er, I can’t even say it, but this picture of two arseholes should give you a clue:
I prefer to remember moments like this:
The second big shock was revealed to us quite recently, during the final moments of this past week’s episode, “The Door“.
I’m not crying; you’re crying!
Benioff says the third surprise won’t occur for some time yet, cruelly leaving us to wander reddit ramblings and question every theory we’ve ever known for at least the next couple years. I’m sorry; when does he say this final holy shit moment coming?
Ugh. So, my first thought is that other parentage theory (***Book Spoilers at the link) is, in fact true, and after R + L = J is confirmed, we end up with the three Targaryens aka three heads of the dragon (***Book Spoilers at the link) overseeing the Seven Kingdoms. But I have another idea that’s really out there and guys, I think you’ll be truly surprised, because it’s not (like the other two shocks) going to leave us in tears. In fact, I do believe you’ll be rather happy! Are you ready?
Presenting, the mother of all holy shit moments, what I predict will be Game of Thrones‘ final scene: the one true leader for us all (and her faithful, lusty companion); she’s the Queen of the World!
Yes, yes I did make that work of art all by myself. Just for you.
Happy Hump Day, y’all.
