Here’s the Only Prince Tribute You Need to See

There’s been a lot of press over and since the weekend about Madonna and Stevie Wonder performing Nothing Compares 2 U and Purple Rain at the Billboard Awards Sunday night, most of it non-complimentary. Personally, I passed on watching it, as I have most of the recent honoring performances, because the only person I want to hear doing a Prince song is…well, Prince (*sob*). Ok, so I definitely read the line “non-existent tap shoes? C’mon, you got chills, didn’t you?” as a standalone line, and was thoroughly confused, because those were definitely tap shoes and I did not get what the shtick was. All good now 🙂 And yes, that was incredible!

On another note, I also haven’t even bothered to watch the Madonna tribute, because I won’t let her do that to Prince. Having not seen it, I feel safe in assuming she made the “tribute” all about her and was a gaudy nightmare that Our Dearly Departed would just roll his eyes at.

Did you see this? D’Angelo, with Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum’s Prince cover band, Princess. It’s about four weeks old now, but it might still make you cry.
