I Don’t Think Any of Us Is Prepared for Robert Kirkman’s Next Comic Series Adaptation: Outcast Is Coming

“What we’ve been able to achieve on Cinemax, with its unprecedented creative freedom, frankly, almost scares ME at times.” (Robert Kirkman)

Whatever its faults, The Walking Dead is still one of my favorite television series to watch; it’s a completely different world I can escape to and be enveloped in, and much of that has to do with Robert Kirkman’s brain. So as soon as I read that another of his comics was being brought to the small screen, my heart jumped a little, but nothing prepared me for this little clip I watched. Outcast is a horror series about Kyle Barnes (Gone Girl‘s Patrick Fugit), a man experiencing demonic possession since he was a child, and this preview will give you a little taste of what we’re in for.

Yeah, just a boy and a bug, but it’s an effective tease that lets us know they’re not playing around. As with The Omen (original flavor) and The Exorcist, there’s something so deeply unsettling about a possessed child; with that quiet clip, Outcast captures the same simplicity of a completely uncontrollable entity seeping into our everyday existence.

Oh, but there’s more, including a stellar cast:  Philip Glenister (Mad Dogs, Ashes to Ashes, Life on Mars), Wrenn Schmidt (Boardwalk Empire, The Americans, Person of Interest), David Denman (Parenthood, True Detective, The Gift), Melinda McGraw (Mad Men, The Dark Knight, State of Affairs), Lee Tergesen (American Horror Story, The Americans, Oz, Longmire) and Data himself, Brent Spiner.

Outcast‘s first 10-episode run begins June 3rd, the pilot is directed by Adam Wingard (V/H/S, The ABCs of Death, You’re Next, A Horrible Way to Die), and Cinemax has already renewed the series for a second round.

I have so many things I feel and want to say about this but first of all WHY CINEMAX and how the hell am I gonna watch this?
Patrick Fugit, I’m so psyched. But I want to give that little child actor a hug and begin a Kickstarter for his therapy.

    • Really hoping they come out with a standalone app like the other premiums.

That would be good. Isn’t there something else being produced by Cinemax that we’re looking forward to? Worse case scenario can always be wait until the season is over, subscribe for a month and binge watch it before canceling the subscription again…right?
